Bulb Wattage differences between LED lights and traditional lights

With old bulbs it was really important to check the wattage rating on the bulb, to be sure it was the light that you needed and be the right wattage to avoid any danger to the house or the fixtures. But thanks to LED bulbs, this problem is not that relevant now, because we don’t have the heating and wattage problem for the fixtures.

The biggest difference between LED bulbs and incandescent or halogen bulbs is the wattage use, on LED bulbs the wattage is less for the same amount of light generated. For example, if we see “60W equivalent” on LED bulb specifications, this means that this bulb generates the same amount of light as a 60W incandescent bulb, but using a really lower wattage than incandescent. At least 80% less energy, so you won’t have to worry about exceeding the fixture’s wattage rating and make the fixture safer than using an incandescent bulb and also reducing your energy consumption, so it is better for your bills and for the environment.

There are different types of LED bulbs depending on what type of traditional bulb you want to replace. For fluorescent tubes the wattage equivalency or lumens have to be compared to that tube, and the same for HID bulbs or any different bulb. The important thing is to have a wattage equivalency or similar illumination for the fixture you want to change to a LED bulb.

But, what do I do if my fixture doesn’t have a wattage rating? Well, if the fixture doesn't have a wattage rating or is not visible for any reason, the best thing you can do is to put in a LED bulb. With this you’ll need a small amount of power and generate a good amount of light.

In conclusion, you can replace any type of light with LED bulbs, but you should check if the bulb has a wattage equivalency or maybe compare the lumens to the light you already have. With LED bulbs the wattage rating of the fixture is not really important because LED bulbs consume a really low wattage.

You can also try LED strip lights or Recessed lighting.
