Lighting for low ceilings

Lighting for low ceilings

A lot of people have rooms with low ceilings that make some people feel uncomfortable and claustrophobic, this problem is not rare and there are a few things you can do with the lighting to make the space look bigger and feel more comfortable even with the low ceiling. Upgrading the light you’ll achieve to have a better looking room.

Let’s see what we can do to improve it.

Embrace breadth

Hanging lights usually are near 6 feets and 8 inches above the ground, but with low ceilings we don’t have that space. The best choice is to have a good decorative light, a larger one and low profile fixture, providing more empty space but having a good fixture appearance. With a low fixture we generate a great light for a table, or even for the whole general lighting for the room, and it makes the space look higher and bigger.

Use more than one light sources and fixtures

Having only one light fixture can make the space look sulky or gloomy, generating too many shadows. By adding more light fixtures or sources we can make annoying shadows disappear. There are many light sources you can use, such as lamps, LED Strips, ceiling lights, pendant lights…

To take advantage of the different light sources you should put the lights on different points and focus in different directions, making the spaces more open and bright.

Putting up lightning

A good way to make the ceiling look higher and open the space is to put lights up towards the ceiling. For this type of lighting, the best option is to put lights like LED strips, LED rope lights… on the top of cabinets or shelvings of the room, eliminating the shadows close to the ceiling. This can make a great difference.

Combining these tips you can make your low ceiling room look great and much bigger and higher, making the space really comfortable.
