Colour temperature can change drastically the look and feel of any room, completely changing your view of it. It can make the room look cosy and inviting or crisp and invigorating only changing the colour temperature, so it is a very important fact to have in mind.

 

The first thing you have to know is what colour temperature means. Colour temperature is the way we have to describe the light provided by a light source. We can measure colour temperature by Kelvins, when the less kelvins it has, the more “orange” or “ soft” will be the light. For residential cases it is usually used from 2000K to 6500K.

Colour temperature allows us to know how the produced light will feel and be. Colour temperature measuring is meant to recreate the Kelvin temperature of metal objects

So let’s see what temperature is right for each case. Colour temperature from 2000K to 3000K is called “warm white”, it goes from orange to yellow-white lighting appearance, it’s a cosy and calm illumination. Perfect for living room, bedroom or a restaurant. It makes the space really comfortable and inviting.

 

Between 3100K and 4500K is called “cool white” or “cold white”. This light is more like a neutral white light. It’s a white light, bright and vibrant, good choice for garages, work spaces, bathrooms … It make the space safer and more productive or efficient on work zones thanks to the good visibility

Bright lights usually make the space look bigger but less cosy and comfortable. Is not really recommended for living rooms or bedrooms if it's going to be the only light in the room)

And finally lights above 4500K of colour temperature are usually called “daylight”. These lights will give you a really bright blue/white light. Is the best light for security lighting, garages, shops or places where you need a really good visibility.

So if you want to change or renew your recessed lighting for any room, you have to choose the right colour temperature for the room. Choosing the right colour temperature depending on what you want to do with the room. Remember, low temperature is cosy and comfortable, for living room, bedrooms... Meanwhile high temperature light is used for work spaces, garages and similar spaces.
